The Plan

The Fairbanks North Star Borough, in partnership with the Fairbanks Downtown Association, has prepared a new land use plan for downtown Fairbanks. Like many communities throughout the United States and Alaska, Fairbanks is experiencing growth and development. This growth means that the physical characteristics of Fairbanks will continue to change. As these changes take shape and are debated, we will be faced with difficult land use decisions. To guide future land use decision-making, a plan should be established and be rooted in the values of residents and the physical assets that make Fairbanks a great place to live.

"Vision Fairbanks is a widely accepted community plan to preserve the history and character of the Fairbanks community and at the same time create vibrant street-level retail, bring a grocery store back Downtown, restore two-way traffic flow to both Cushman and Barnette Streets, and bicycle and pedestrian friendly improvements, creat a public square and green space Downtown, and more!"
